I have taught English Literature and Creative Writing at the Singapore Chinese Girl's School to girls in secondary 1-3 in May this year. I have supervised 25 research projects and helped the girls edit their writing and improve their presentation skills.
I have taught an IB student English literature, and I have also taught Japanese kindergarten kids English. After giving tuition to the Japanese children, they were able to move from no knowing a word of English to confidently reading children's books and writing in English.
Apart from English, I have also taught piano to a university student. I have performed as the NTU Convocation Dinner Pianist in 2013 as I love sharing music with others.
My primary 5 teacher told me that learning is supposed to be fun and not stressful. I have applied this philosophy to my students, and it worked like a charm. At the end of my teaching internship at the Singapore Chinese Girl's School, I remember students' parents and grandparents coming up to me telling me how their kids had fun in my classes and learned a lot. I love working with students and also bring enthusiasm to the subject matter! I believe that English teachers should work at making the characters come alive in the novels and teach students to apply what they read into their lives. I did this successfully with the SCGS girls, and I believe I have sown seeds of greatness into their lives.
I hope to have more teaching/tutoring opportunities! )
Commitment Level I can start asap and can tutor once each week. In November, I will be having university graduate-level examinations.
