I graduated from Xiamen University in China with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio Physics.
I have been teaching as a tutor for 20 years. I specialize in Chinese and hence I am very familiar with all the latest changes in the MOE syllabi. My tutees range from Primary Three to Secondary Four. In general, my students' Chinese grades have improved by at least 2 letter grades (e.g. from C to A) after 1 year of teaching. Over 90% of my students achieved A or A* in their PSLE or O Level Exams.
My daughter's accomplished academic journey is reflective of my success in teaching and guidance. My daughter began her education in a neighborhood primary school, was selected for the GEP (Gifted Education Programme) in Primary 4, and eventually graduated from RJC with a perfect A Level score (A in 3 H1 subjects, A in 3 H2 subjects, and Disctinction in 1 H3 subject) in 2008. She was subsequently offered overseas scholarships from 3 different scholarship boards and is now pursuing an undergraduate degree in an Ivy League university in the USA. A critical factor for my daughter's outstanding academic performance is the strong foundation that I have helped her build in her early years of education. I guided her in all her subjects very closely in her Lower Primary years, and since then she has been able to manage her studies independently (she never had any outside tutoring) and outstandingly.
Commitment Level I am committed, patient, encouraging and willing to go the extra mile to help my students improve their Chinese. I communicate regularly with the parents so that they can understand their children's progress.
As a fulltime tutor, I can start anytime and can teach for any duration of time.
My teaching method is as follows
I emphasize building a strong foundation through understanding basics. I ensure that my students understand the meaning and usage of every word or phrase in the textbook before exposing them to material outside the textbook. I believe that practice makes perfect, and hence I provide my students with ample supplementary exercises. Most importantly, I aim to inspire a genuine interest in Chinese in my students, so as to motivate them to conscientiously put in effort into learning the subject well. I also focus on building up my students confidence in taking exams. In addition, I actively engage in conversation with my students so as to improve their performance in oral exams and to improve their overall Chinese standard. With 20 year of experience, I am a versatile tutor in that I can adopt different teaching methods to suit each student's learning ability and style.
