Singapore Chemistry Olympiad Silver
I have given tuition unofficially on various occasions in my life. Being the best student from my secondary school, I used to help my classmates understand concepts they were struggling with. When I entered National Junior College, I remained an exemplary student (2 H3 distinctions and a H2 A in physics), hence I continued to teach my friends physics when they required help.
Since I was away from Singapore for university, I did not take on any long term students during that period. I did give on and off tuition (physics, chemistry) to a NYGH student during that period, and have received excellent feedback.
The Cambridge supervision system (called tutorials in other universities) were invaluable to my university education. Conducted in small groups of two students to one supervisor (either a professor or a PhD student), the lessons were intense and vastly helpful. Our supervisors asked challenging questions which tested our understanding of the course content. I would like to bring this style of personalised teaching back to Singapore, in the form of tuition. I believe in helping my students to understand the material, as opposed to boring and pointless learning by rote.
Commitment Level I should be free on weekday evenings and on weekends. Occasionally, I may need to reschedule sessions should I decide to work over time.
