I am a Japanese native and I moved to Singapore about 17 years ago. Prior to coming to Singapore, I studied at the Institute of International Education in London. In 2000, I graduated top of my course and attained a Diploma in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language(University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate).
I am an MOE registered teacher and have been teaching Japanese for about 19 years. I have extensive experience in lecturing large classes as well as working with individuals. When I first arrived in Singapore i taught at JCS(Japanese Cultural Society) for about 6 years. During my term at JCS I've prepared exams papers for all levels, from the basic Elementary level all the way to Special Advanced. I was also tasked to plan and prepare the syllabus for these levels.
Since then, I've been doing freelance teaching. Aside from private tuition, I'm also conducting Japanese lessons for companies, these are aimed at improving/upgrading the employees communication ability with their Japanese clients. I am also currently a part-time lecturer at JCS. Throughout my years of teaching I've developed a new teaching pedagogy to teach Elementary and Intermediate Japanese.
I have experience in the following
1) JLPT N1 - N5
2) GCE 'O' and 'A' Levels
3) IGCSE 'O' Levels
5) General Conversation
6) Business Conversation / Business Japanese / Business Speech
7) Hospitality Japanese Language Training
Commitment Level I am a full-time tutor and am able to commit long term.
I enjoy teaching very much, for me, it was not just the students who were learning, I was learning from them as well. Throughout my years as a Japanese teacher, I've taught students from various backgrounds/cultures, students from different age groups and students with different goals in wanting to study the language. Regardless of their language ability they could be pure beginners or advanced Japanese users - when they graduate from my class, there is always something that I learn from them. They can be something useful such as a new way of memorizing certain words or something simple like understanding a different culture. This has been very useful to me and I feel that I can teach better. I want to pass what I have learnt to my students and hopefully, my students will be able to pick up the language faster.
