Experience/Remarks

I have taught over 10 students in the past 5 years. In 2005, I co-tutored a group of 6 Primary 6 EM3 girls in English and Math to prepare them for their PSLE. They received confidence boosts and all their grades improved. They all did better than expected for their PSLE and all entered secondary schools. In 2006 and 2007, I volunteered at a daycare centre and helped lower primary children with their English and Math homework. In 2008, I tutored 2 Sec 1 students who were weak in math. They picked up an interest in math and this accelerated their pace of learning. I am currently tutoring a JC2 boy in H2 Economics. After just one lesson, he has said that his understanding of concepts is much clearer than before.

I find that with most students who are particularly weak in certain subjects, the main problem lies in their lack of self confidence in doing their schoolwork well. This leads to disinterest and more often than not, an aversion to learning. This would only serve to worsen their grades and is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. In order to reverse this trend, I always try to build their confidence with words of encouragement. I will expose them to easier questions first. This way, I can strengthen their foundations in the subject. Only when a sturdy foundation is established will they be better able to grasp more advanced concepts and find learning even more interesting.

Commitment Level

I can start immediately and can keep to schedule until end July '10, after which I will be entering medical school. I will update my schedule when the time arrives.

Unfortunately, I may not be able to continue taking on new assignments when I start school, and I may have to drop a few of my current assignments as well.
