Experience/Remarks
I've had 5 students in a span of 4 years. All of them were either Sec 3 or Sec 4 NA. Out of 5, 4 made it to polytechnic. Last I heard, one of them was in their dean's list. Although I was hired as an English tutor, I ended up helping them in various subjects, from Phy/Chem, to E Math and Accounts as they had approached me for help.
I have also taught in a secondary school for a term. I taught Sec 2 and Sec 3 Normal Tech. While it was challenging, I managed to bond with them and encouraged them to pursue their passion. The results were satisfying. My Sec 2 class achieved a 100% pass for their English.
My dedication and flexibility is my greatest strength. I often overtime myself, stretching up to 2 hours for 90 minutes of tuition. I also allow my students to ask me questions of different subjects if they need help and I am able to answer them.
I keep my lessons as far away as possible from their classroom environment. I become more of a mentor, questioning them rather than giving the answers I strictly do not believe in spoonfeeding knowledge.
On top of teaching, I also have other experiences. I used to freelance as a journalist for publications (LIME magazine, Career Central magazine, S.League, World Cup 06 for StarHub). I was also a debator during my secondary and poly days, going for varsity tournaments locally as well as overseas. I believe that my experiences here could be of great help when teaching English.
Commitment Level
I plan to maintain tuition over the next 4 years, and gladly look forward to sustainable students.
As most of my classes will be earlier in the day, I am free on most weekdays and weekends during my school term.
However, during my exam periods (Feb - March) might get a little hectic.
