Experience/Remarks

I have a year experience tutoring my fellow Hwa Chong Institution school mates in JC2 in H2 mathematics, as part of a CIP project. In my past experience of tutoring my friends, I have tried to point out the strengths and weaknesses of their studying methods to them. I have also encouraged them when they have made progress in their grades. The improvement may not be significant but I believe that making progress is a good sign of true learning. I have also made it a point to be patient in explaining the content matter but ensure that they are on task and do frequent practices. One of my tutees is especially hard working and does several practice maths questions but still does not seem to achieve the grades she deserves. After examining her work, I realised that she is very careless and tends to misunderstand the question requirements. I helped her by suggesting that she improve her handwriting and better organize her working to reduce careless mistakes. I also tried to expose her to different types of questions to check on her approach to the questions. I also suggested that she reattempt past examination questions that she has made mistakes in. After about a year, her mathematics grade improved from an S to a C.

Commitment Level

I can start asap and can do so till June 2009.
