Experience/Remarks

I was appointed as the Biology peer tutor in Victoria Junior College, and have been tutoring fellow students regularly throughout my J2 year. I was glad to find out that they all improved from U and S grades to score C and above in A Levels.

I specialise in tutoring JC students. Graduated in year 2008 and tutoring JC students since then, I am familiar with the current JC syllabus and the examination formats. My knowledge is solid and relevant. I am currently tutoring 2 JC girls and an IB final year student in chemistry,biology and math.

As a tutor, I am patient and responsible. I usually focus on teaching problem-solving skills and different methods in study rather than just reaching the correct answers. My goal is not only to teach my students so that they improve on their grades, but also to train them to study independently, so that they will continue the good performance in the future without my guidance. So far my tutees have been doing well, improving steadily with greater interest in study. All my current tutees have followed me for more than 2 years and we formed strong bonds with each other. I am not the fierce and stern type of tutor, but rather understanding and friendly. However, that does not mean I will compromise on the quality of teaching. I personally find being a tutor and a friend at the same time can guide my tutees better in their learning and make it easier for them to seek my help.

Commitment Level

I am currently reading third year in NUS Faculty of Dentistry. My school work is rather tough with long hours. Hence I expect student to be flexible about the tution timing (ie, allow minor changes instead of fixed schedule). However, I will certainly be responsible and will not cancel or postpone lessons for personal or unnecessary reasons. I can commit for long-term teaching. All my current students have been with me for more than 2 years.

During holidays I may need to leave for overseas. In such situation, I always inform my tutee and parents a month ahead so as to plan and reschedule lessons.

(note, this coming December I will be overseas, so I won't be able to give tuition in that month)
