Experience/Remarks
I have 3.5 years of full time tutoring experience. Having tutored students from top schools like RI, St Nicholas' Girls, Catholic High, ACS, HCI, Nan Hua High.
Depending on the needs of the students, some I'll teach them in advance. Going through each topic by section, explain and demostrate to them how questions are done and let them try basic questions before moving on to the more challenging ones. From time to time I'll give them test papers to do to revisit the old topics so that they don't lose touch with them for too long.
If I get the assignment in the middle of the academic year, most likely we will play catching up. Most explanation work has been done by the school so I'll give them questions to do and clear all their misconceptions and bad habits and reinforce important points.
It is best that students cooperate by doing the tuition homework as it would help to reinforce the newly learnt concepts. Mathematics is a practice subject. I ask for quality assignments to be done, not quantity so that they will think it through and not rush just to finish it off. Otherwise, it would be a uphill task to improve if tuition is the only time in the week that students do their practice on. Students who diligently do their tuition homework tend to do better in the school exams.
However, getting tuition is not equivalent to getting a guarantee that students would do well. It takes three parties to clap, the student, school teacher, and the private tutor.
Commitment Level
I can start asap. As far as possible we will try to accomodate each other as I am aware that students have lots of activities in schools or last minute remedial classes as well as other tuitions and enrichment classes. However try to stick to the scheduled slot as you have to understand too that as a full time tutor, we have tuitions packed back to back and we can't mess up our own schedule just because you mess up yours. Please be responsible also that if you forsee any cancellation or rescheduling of tuition, take the initiative to inform early so that we can make adjustments and perhaps other students would like to take up the slot. If there are any cancellation, it would be a privellage to be able to find another slot to make it up, but do not expect that there will always be one. Cheers!
