Experience/Remarks
I have in total 4 years of tutoring experience in since 2006.
Im most experienced in teaching Chinese and Math as Ive been coaching students from various levels since 2006. Besides that, Im also adept in teaching English and Science.
Ive been coaching a Primary 5 student for EMSCfor 2 years and his grades have improved from Band 3 to Band 2 in Chinese, and Band 2 to Band 1 for the other three subjects.
Ive also taught a Primary 5 student since her Primary 4 years for English, Math and Science, her grades for all three subjects improved from Band 2 to Band 1, with an average increase of 10 marks for each subject.
I believe that the process of learning is a dynamic process and I always seek to go beyond the books when I explain theories and concepts to my students. For Mathematics, I emphasize on the importance of Model-diagrams for better understanding of problem sums.
For Science, I will engage my students in little experiments as I want them to appreciate how these knowledge can be applied to daily life and realize the learning is a fun process instead of the usual dull and boring stereotype.
I realized that the key to tackling Chinese is to understand it in terms of visualization methods and not the usual memorize and regurgitate way through story telling session and flashcard games to make learning Chinese and interesting and fun activity.
Commitment Level
I would always have weekly tests and quizzes to check if my students have understand the concepts and Ive a point system which they would accumulate points to exchange for rewards. This encourages my students to work harder as they realize that tuition is no longer just additional classes outside of school. Instead, tuition has become a fun activity which they look forward to.
I also believe in working with the parents to understand their expectations from their children and cooperating with them for maximum improvement from their children. Ive worked really well with the parents of my students by constantly giving them feedback on their childrens performance after each lesson, and by discussing with them the various options we could explore to develop their potential. I would try to engage the parents in the flashcard games and encourage them to quiz their children on a daily basis, and this have proven to be a fantastic bonding session, and the children feel that they are being supported by their parents during their rigorous learning process.
Lastly, I believe in catering to the different needs of my students, and I always encourage them to believe in themselves, and it is their responsibility to work hard and achieve better grades. I always seek for engaging activities to make learning an enjoyable process, because children should not be ripped off their childhood by burying their heads in tremendous amount of homework and textbooks.
