Other Qualifications
I am currently studying in NUS School of Computing, doing an undergraduate course in Computer Science. Graduating from an Integrated Programme course in NUS High School with a NUS High School Diploma, which is of a higher qualification than an A level certificate, I scored a 4.4 out of a possible 5.0, where 3.5 the same as getting all A1s in all H2 subjects.
Additionally, I score an average of 4.5 out of a 5.0 for my Physics, which amounts to getting a Distinction in H3 Physics, and a 4.25 for my Chemistry, which is a Distinction in H3 Chemistry. I have no problems solving H3 Physics and Chemistry questions.
I also achieved a straight 5 out of 5 for my Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations, which is pitched at around H2/H3 standards. My scores are a 5 in Physics B & C, Calculus AB & BC, Statistics, as well as Chemistry.
A score of 5 means I am extremely well qualified in that area and have a good advantage when applying for relevant courses in overseas universities.
NUS High School only takes in the top students, which is why our curriculum is highly accelerated. Our Years 1-4 (Sec 1-4) covers more content than the O levels and A levels combined, and our Years 5-6 (JC 1 - 2) covers in depth H3 and university content.
In total, I have taught more than 50 students, most of which showed significant improvement, especially a few who improved from E or F to above C. Many of my students ended up studying abroad in prestigious universities.
Experience/Remarks
My main method of teaching is straightforward and simple
1. Look through the student's past test papers or assignment questions.
2. Student will attempt to explain how he/she interprets certain difficult questions.
3. Correct the flaws in student's understanding of the concept, by providing real-life examples if possible.
4. Provide similar examples during the lesson to test whether the student has understood the concept completely.
5. Revise concept/topic on following lesson if necessary
I have had several years of experience teaching younger students, ranging from primary 5 to JC 2, as well as AP and IB school students.
I am well versed in Physics, as I have been giving physics tuition for over 5 years to several students of different levels, and I have in-depth knowledge of the subject due to the rigorous syllabus my school offered. I have taught the H2 and H3 content to multiple students from various JCs, as well as the AP Physics B to several American students.
That, however, does not mean that I do not fare well in other subjects. I have taught multiple students mathematics, especially in the area of calculus, where many are struggling to cope with this new concept.
To date, I have tutored a few primary school students math and science, many secondary school students in the area of physics, math and chemistry, and several JC, SAS(Singapore American School) as well as IB students physics and math.
Commitment Level
Currently, I am free on weekday evenings and weekends.
I live near Bishan, and would prefer teaching students locations nearby. I can negotiate the fee I offer through this web portal, and would give a much lower rate if the student chooses to come to my house for tuition instead.
While most tutors charge based on the amount of hours taught, I will decide the fee based on the amount of time I spend per lesson. A 2 hour weekly lesson is better for teaching the student than a 1 hour lesson twice a week, a smaller portion of the time is spent refreshing the his/her memory and more is spent on the topics on hand. Hence, my rates are lower for longer lessons as compared to shorter ones.
Similar to many tutors, I will always give my utmost effort to help the student improve, and is willing to stay longer than the stipulated time if required to help the student understand certain difficult concepts. However, I must ask that the student also puts in his/her best foot forward to improve his/her grades.
